Who We Are and Why We Do This
Where It All Started
LO-KO Performance Coatings didn't start in some fancy corporate boardroom. It started in a small garage with a handful of tools, a lot of curiosity, and one simple question: why are so many coating services charging premium prices for average results?
The founder had been working in the automotive performance industry for years — applying coatings, testing materials, and watching the same problems repeat themselves. Customers would bring in expensive headers or custom-fabricated parts, pay for what they were told was a top-tier coating job, and then come back three months later with peeling finishes and discoloration that looked like it hadn't seen a day of professional work. That gap between what people were promised and what they actually got was the spark that started LO-KO.
What began as a one-person side hustle quickly turned into something bigger. Word spread through the local racing and building community that there was a guy who actually cared about the quality of his work — someone who would reject a job if the prep wasn't right rather than just slapping coating on a dirty surface and hoping for the best. That reputation for refusing to cut corners is what got us from that first garage to the full-scale facility we operate today.
Our Mission — Plain and Simple
Our mission hasn't changed since day one: deliver coatings that actually perform the way they're supposed to, and treat every customer's parts like they're our own. That's it. No complicated corporate mission statement, no buzzwords, just a straightforward commitment to doing the job right.
We believe that performance coatings should be accessible to anyone who needs them — whether you're building a $100,000 race car or you just want your truck's suspension components to survive a few years of trail abuse. Quality shouldn't be a luxury. It should be the standard. And we work every day to make sure that standard holds up across every single project that comes through our doors.
The Team Behind the Coatings
LO-KO is run by a small but experienced team of people who genuinely love what they do. Our technicians aren't just employees clocking in — most of them are gearheads, builders, and motorsport enthusiasts in their own right. They understand why you care about your build because they care about theirs. That shared passion shows up in the work, and it's something you can't fake.
Every person in our facility goes through extensive training on our coating processes, quality control standards, and customer communication protocols. We don't believe in having one person do prep while another does the spraying — our technicians are cross-trained across all three core services (ceramic, powder, and XR2), which means whoever handles your job knows exactly what it needs from start to finish. There's no passing the buck, no "that's not my department" excuses. One technician owns your project from intake to delivery.
What Drives Us Forward
Fifteen years in, we're still obsessed with getting better. The coating industry evolves constantly — new materials, new application techniques, new research into thermal barrier technology — and we refuse to get complacent. We invest a significant portion of our time and budget into testing new formulations, refining our processes, and staying current with the latest developments in coating science.
But we also know that technology is only part of the equation. The other part is communication and trust. We want every person who contacts us to feel confident that they're dealing with people who know their stuff and have their best interests in mind. If a coating isn't right for your application, we'll tell you. If a cheaper option will work just as well, we'll recommend that instead. If your parts need more prep work than you expected, we'll be upfront about it before any charges are applied. That level of transparency is how we've built lasting relationships with our customers, and it's non-negotiable for us.
Our Facility
Our current facility was designed from the ground up with coating application in mind. It includes dedicated prep bays, climate-controlled spray booths, and precision curing ovens that maintain exact temperature profiles for each type of coating. The layout is optimized for workflow efficiency, which means your parts move through the process quickly without any steps being rushed or skipped.
We've also invested heavily in quality control equipment, including coating thickness measurement tools, adhesion testing gear, and thermal imaging cameras that let us verify the effectiveness of our ceramic applications. We don't just trust our eyes — we measure, we test, and we document everything so you know exactly what you're getting.
Looking Ahead
The future of LO-KO is about continued growth without losing what makes us who we are. We're expanding our capacity to handle larger volumes, exploring new coating technologies, and building out our educational content so more people can understand what goes into a quality coating job. But through all of that, the core values stay the same: honest pricing, exceptional quality, and a genuine respect for the people who trust us with their parts.
We're not trying to be the biggest coating shop in the country. We're trying to be the best one for the people who need us. And as long as we keep that focus, we know we're on the right track.
